XtrChrome is a nodular, thin, and dense chrome coating that is applied to bearing components using a method that guarantees precise deposition. It has many benefits including increased surface hardening, bearing life, and energy-saving, as well as a reduction in cost, production lead time, and surface friction.
XtrChrome is used within a wide variety of industries such as naval, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, and food processing. It is useful as a coating for bearings and some particular bearing surfaces made from 52100, M-50, M-50 NIL, BG-42, 440C, and all pH-basis metals, allowing bearing surfaces to run longer and cooler.
The surface texture allows for high-quality performance even in extreme environments, especially when used with ceramic rolling elements. Lubrication is held within the nodular microscopic surface structure, allowing a number of benefits including fast acceleration without full ball loading, emergency rundown due to loss of lubrication, oscillating movements that do not complete a full revolution, environments that do not allow for lubrication, and low rotational speeds. Fretting corrosion caused by the micro displacement of the bearing rings can be significantly reduced whilst increasing speed capabilities at lower operating temperatures.
XtrChrome Coating Advantages:
- Increased wear-resistance due to 78HRC surface hardness
- Corrosion-resistance exceeding 440C stainless steel, with additional chemical resistance
- Reduced friction and wear in application
- Lower maintenance and part replacement costs
- Complete adhesion to base metal: no chipping, flaking, cracking, or peeling
- Reduced micro-adhesion
- Nodular surface gives improved adhesion strength of lubrication film
- XtrChrome coated components are more economic and readily available the 440C Stainless Steel
- Increased running capabilities with a lower coefficient of friction
- FDA approved for product contact
