Silicon carbide bearings offer many of the same benefits to their more readily available silicon nitride counterparts, including huge weight savings. However, silicon carbide delivers incredibly high corrosion-resistance, making it suitable for the world’s most toxic and chemically corrosive environments.
Similar to other ceramic materials, silicon carbide has a high hardness, low torque, and its bearings can run lubrication-free. However, this material is also electrically conductive, which can be used as a benefit in some applications.
These bearings are not as available as many of their other ceramic counterparts, however UNASIS-brand bearings can be readily supplied in popular metric and imperial sizes of deep groove and angular-contact ball bearings.
